Program description
The call is announced by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Ukraine. Small grants are one of the instruments of Slovak development cooperation. Funding is provided by the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation through the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Kyiv.
Small grants focus on supporting small-scale development projects and enable a flexible, operational and effective response to local development needs.
Main Information
Eligibility
Within the grant programme, organizations registered in Ukraine are eligible to apply, including:
- non-governmental organizations;
- not-for-profit organizations;
- civic associations;
- local and municipal authorities;
- schools and healthcare institutions.
The call is also open to registered non-commercial legal entities and local or regional self-government units.
The organizers specify that applicants are not eligible if:
- the organization is subject to international sanctions;
- the Slovak Republic has a financial claim against the organization.
The programme also allows organizations to submit more than one project application.
Financing
Supported Activities
Within the grant programme, all projects and activities are required to integrate cross-cutting themes as part of their implementation.
Supported areas include:
- environmental protection and climate change action, including biodiversity protection and sustainable use of natural resources;
- gender equality, promoting equal rights, opportunities, and protection for women and girls;
- improving access to healthcare, prevention, and workforce capacity, especially for vulnerable groups;
- strengthening quality education, vocational skills, and learning infrastructure;
- supporting good governance and civil society development through stronger institutions, rule of law, and citizen participation.
The organizers note that applications negatively affecting these themes will not be approved.
Roadmap
How to Apply
To participate in the grant programme, applicants must submit project proposals by 15 June 2026 (Monday) in both electronic and hard-copy formats.
The application process includes the following steps:
- sending the electronic version of the proposal to: emb.kiev@mzv.sk;
- preparing a printed application package;
- submitting or mailing the hard-copy application to the Embassy of the Slovak Republic at:
Yaroslavyv Val St. 34, Kyiv, Ukraine, 01901.
The organizers specify that hard-copy applications must be:
- completed;
- signed;
- stamped;
- accompanied by supporting documentation, including registration documents of the applicant organization and CVs of key project representatives in English.
Applications must be submitted no later than 17:00 Kyiv time on the deadline date. Late applications will not be accepted.
Required Documents
To participate in the grant programme, applicants are required to prepare and submit a set of mandatory documents. The organizers provided a list of the main forms and templates used within the call.
The application checklist includes:
- Application for financial contribution (FO-52/6);
- Data Subject Consent for Processing of Personal Data;
- Small Grant Completion Report template;
- Financial Report template;
- Guidance for Applicants and Final Beneficiaries – Small Grants 2026;
- Small Grant Agreement Template.
The organizers recommend using the official forms and templates when preparing the project application.
Reporting and Compliance
Within the grant programme, beneficiaries are required to submit final and financial reports after the completion of the project. The organizers provide dedicated templates for both the completion report and the financial report.
The financial report must include:
- a detailed description of each expense according to the approved budget lines;
- invoices and original receipts for works, goods, and services used during project implementation;
- a statement from a bank or exchange office confirming the exchange rate applied when converting the grant funds into local currency.
The organizers specify that the beneficiary must prepare the financial report covering 100% of the project budget.
Legal Terms
Within the grant programme, the organizers established several legal and procedural requirements for beneficiaries.
Key programme conditions include:
- all supporting documents must be in English or accompanied by an English translation;
- unofficial translations are accepted;
- project implementation starts immediately after the signing of the Small Grant Agreement.
In case of unforeseen circumstances, including budget changes or implementation delays, the beneficiary is required to inform the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in writing and request approval for modifications.
The organizers specifically state that changes to the project budget, scope, or expected outcomes will not be accepted without prior approval.
The programme also notes that the Small Grants scheme is a development cooperation instrument of the Slovak Republic implemented through the network of Slovak embassies abroad.
