Program description

The Ukrainian Agri Council (UAC) and the Consultation Centre of the Association of Milk Producers announced the launch of a new component of a project supporting small and medium-sized dairy farms in frontline regions, in partnership with the international humanitarian organisation MERCY CORPS, and opened applications from dairy farms.

The project aims to strengthen the economic resilience of small and medium-sized dairy farms through comprehensive technological, advisory and veterinary support.

Eligibility

The project targets small and medium-sized dairy farms operating under security, economic, and workforce challenges. Its primary focus is on regions most affected by the war.

Participation requirement:

  • the farm keeps up to 750 dairy cows and is located in one of the project’s target regions.

The project covers the following regions of Ukraine: Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, Odesa, Kyiv, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Kirovohrad regions.

Financing

Under the grant programme, support is planned for 100 dairy farms (MTFs).

The application support services are financed on a co-funding basis:

  • The dairy farm (MTF) covers 50% of the service cost – UAH 45,000.
  • The remaining 50% (UAH 45,000) is covered by the project.

Supported Activities

The project provides systematic support for each selected farm and includes the following activities:

  • comprehensive dairy farm audits (veterinary, technological, and feeding management) with on-site expert visits;
  • preparation of a detailed report identifying priority areas for improving operational processes;
  • targeted support for implementing recommendations throughout the project period;
  • final audit and evaluation of results;
  • staff training and thematic webinars for participants.

A separate area of support focuses on preparing farms to meet European standards, including the introduction of production protocols, milk quality control, documentation and traceability practices, as well as herd health management.

Evaluation Criteria

Priority in the selection process will be given to enterprises affected by the war.

The main selection priorities include:

  • support for war-affected farms;
  • preserving the dairy sector in affected regions;
  • supporting jobs in local communities;
  • strengthening Ukraine’s food security.
