Program description

The "Responsibility Award" was established by the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation in 2021 to honor civil society organizations (CSOs) operating daily on the values embedded in Bohdan Hawrylyshyn's Declaration of Human Responsibilities — a prominent Ukrainian economist, philanthropist, and public figure. Cooperation as an indicator of responsibility is the cross-cutting theme of the Award, while a culture of responsibility is cultivated by sharing inspiring examples of intersectoral cooperation.

In 2026, the Award continues to recognize CSOs and their stories of responsible partnership that strengthen Ukraine through collaboration during full-scale war and demonstrate responsibility across different levels. The core focus of the Award is directed not only at final project results, but primarily at the quality of built partnership ties between the civil sector, business, local self-government bodies, state institutions, or media.

Submissions are accepted in three nominations: "Story of Responsible Partnership: Communities", "National Partnership Project", and "Interaction Without Borders: Ukraine to the World". Organizers form Long and Short lists (10 organizations), from which the independent jury selects 3 laureates, while Award partners recognize selected projects with special awards.
