Briefly
Program description
An opportunity for innovators in agricultural technology to participate in a cutting-edge initiative aimed at transforming agriculture through modern solutions.
AGRO-WELL is a Horizon Europe project aimed at implementing digital and data technologies (robotics, AR, AI) that improve safety and working conditions on farms, enhance management decision-making efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The Open Call Theme A funds four sub-projects lasting 12-18 months that demonstrate relevant technologies on commercial farms (orchards, greenhouses, open fields, pig farms) and assess their impacts, with mandatory coverage of at least one growing season for fruit and vegetable crops.
Main Information
Eligibility
Applicants must be legal entities from countries eligible to participate in Horizon Europe: EU member states, associated countries, legal entities from non-associated third countries and international organizations headquartered in a member state or associated country. Each proposal must be unique; one organization can submit only one application; the proposal must correspond to one of the two announced thematic areas; projects with fruit and vegetable crops must cover at least one growing season. Participants cannot be members of the AGRO-WELL consortium.
Financing
Eligible costs include: personnel costs (salaries for work performance and report preparation); travel costs; equipment depreciation (equipment purchase taking into account the period of use); other goods and services (consumables, event services, communications, prototyping, premises rental, etc.); subcontracting services (up to 25% of budget subject to justification and procurement procedures); indirect costs up to 25% of direct costs.
Supported Activities
Demonstration and evaluation on commercial farms of AR, AI, robotic or automated solutions (TRL5+) that improve working conditions and worker safety and facilitate informed decision-making; projects must be conducted in greenhouses, open fields, orchards or pig farms, covering at least one season for fruit and vegetable crops.
How to Apply
- Collect the Open Call document package from the AGRO-WELL website.
- The consortium leader registers through the online form.
- Prepare the application and budget, obtain signatures from all partners (Application Form, Budget Table,
- Declaration of Honour, Bank Account Information).
- Send all documents in PDF (in one zip file) to agro-well.FSTP@euroquality.fr by 17:00 CET on February 4, 2026.
Applications submitted by other means or after the deadline are not accepted.
Evaluation Criteria
Proposals are evaluated according to four criteria (1-5 points, threshold 3, total threshold 12 points):
Concept and feasibility – clarity, relevance and practicality of the concept and its alignment with AGRO-WELL objectives.
Innovation potential and alignment with sustainable agriculture needs – solution's ability to address agricultural sector problems, level of technological, social and organizational innovation.
Impact and utilization of results – expected impact on production, implementation potential and commercialization strategy; TRL indicators and applicability in real conditions.
Organizational capacity and team adequacy – effectiveness of work plan, resource allocation, participants' experience and budget justification.
Weighting factors: concept 20%, innovation potential 30%, impact 30%, team 20%.
Required Documents
Complete application, filled budget template, Declaration of Honour, bank account information, as well as any other documents specified in the guide (e.g., signed consortium declaration). All documents are submitted in PDF format in a zip archive to agro-well.FSTP@euroquality.fr.
FAQ
The AGRO-WELL project is a Horizon Europe/EU initiative that seeks to revolutionize agricultural safety and sustainability by using advanced technologies such as robotics, augmented reality and artificial intelligence. The project aims to develop and support the use of innovative smart farming technologies to improve working conditions, increase safety and enhance sustainability in agriculture by engaging stakeholders, sustainable business models and supporting policy recommendations. The overall goal is to develop five AR, robotics and data-based solutions to improve working conditions in four key sectors: greenhouses, open fields, orchards and pig farms; these solutions are developed considering farmers' needs and evaluated in terms of socio-economic and environmental conditions. The consortium brings together 13 partners with diverse technological and scientific expertise in agriculture, robotics, AI and AR.
To expand traditional engagement approaches, the AGRO-WELL project offers two Open Calls to provide Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP). Open Calls are financial schemes aimed at (1) further developing, demonstrating and replicating digital and data farming technologies that improve working conditions, and (2) increasing the attractiveness of the agricultural sector and/or addressing labor shortage problems. The objective of the calls is to identify and promote advanced technological ideas and solutions at different readiness stages (TRL) and significantly increase their market readiness.
The Open Calls will fund 8 projects in two themes: 4 projects under Theme A (up to €37,500 each) and 4 projects/farms under Theme B (up to €30,000 each).
Each Open Call theme is published for 3 months to ensure sufficient time for applications. After evaluation and selection of sub-projects, contracting and sub-grant agreement signing stages are conducted to allow projects to start in October 2026 for Theme A (12-18 month project) and in April 2028 for Theme B (12 month project). The next application deadline (Theme A) is set for Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 17:00 CET.
To apply, you need to fill out the online application form and send documents by email to agro-well.FSTP@euroquality.fr. For support in the submission process, please refer to the Applicant's Guide. It is important to note that late submissions are not accepted; applicants who submit a proposal after the deadline will receive a "call closed" response. After final submission, each applicant will receive an automatic "acknowledgment of receipt".
AGRO-WELL will accept applications from individual applicants and small consortia consisting of a maximum of 3 parties from countries eligible to participate in the HORIZON-C6-2024-GOVERNANCE-01-7 call: EU member states and associated countries; legal entities registered in non-associated third countries; international organizations headquartered in a member state or associated country. Proposals must be relevant to the competition and clearly show how they achieve expected results. Automatic selection for rejection of irrelevant proposals will occur according to the following criteria: I) legal entity in an eligible country; II) proposal uniqueness (one proposal per consortium); III) one party can participate in only one consortium; IV) proposal must clearly belong to one of two themes (Theme A – demonstration and evaluation of digital technologies on commercial farms; Theme B – replication of AGRO-WELL solutions on farms in other socio-economic contexts).
