Program description

The Association of Mothers and Wives of Defenders of Ukraine has announced an open competition for projects for veteran organizations and initiative groups in the Zhytomyr region. This was made possible thanks to the support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

The goal of the competition is to support the veteran community as a driver of democratic change through financial, mentoring, and expert assistance in the implementation of local projects.

The program includes:

  • Funding — a total fund of UAH 700,000 (planned to support up to 10 projects) 
  • Mentoring support at all stages of implementation
  • Expert support from experienced professionals in the public sector

Eligibility

Veterans' organizations in Zhytomyr and Zhytomyr region.

Supported Activities

Special attention is paid to initiatives aimed at:

  • Influencing local decisions and policies regarding veterans
  • Monitoring the implementation of veteran support programs
  • Dialogue between the veteran community and the authorities
  • Protecting the rights of veterans through advocacy campaigns.

Examples of possible projects:

  • conducting an analysis of the implementation of programs for veterans, as well as submitting reports to local authorities on their effectiveness;
  • holding forums, round tables, and public hearings where veterans can meet with government officials to discuss current issues and find common solutions;
  • holding public hearings and discussions on topics related to veterans to increase community participation in solving social problems;
  • organizing campaigns to change or improve policies and decisions related to the social protection of veterans in order to enhance their rights and opportunities, etc.

*Additional points are awarded to participants in the training program on the use of democratic tools.

! The budget for a single project cannot exceed UAH 70,000
