Eligibility

Proposals must be submitted by a consortium consisting of at least 5 beneficiaries from 5 different eligible countries.

Supported Activities

Creating a multilateral platform / community of practice: establishing a platform that brings together representatives from the biotechnology industry, research institutions, healthcare facilities, patient organizations, regulatory authorities and AI Factories to facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing among stakeholders and discussion of challenges related to the use of artificial intelligence in the biotechnology sector.

Conducting an analytical review: mapping the current state of health data use for AI-based solution development in the biotechnology sector and identifying the most relevant health data sets for this sector based on criteria of potential impact on health outcomes, feasibility and alignment with industry needs. The review should build on existing projects and initiatives. Where possible, AI Factories should also be involved in the analysis to explore further application potential.

Developing a strategic roadmap: creating a roadmap for developing, implementing and scaling effective AI-based solutions in the biotechnology sector, with recommendations for policymakers, industry leaders and researchers. Facilitating the implementation of standardized data formats and frameworks that ensure alignment of research and data infrastructure relevant to biotechnology, taking into account AI Factories capabilities and based on already implemented projects and activities in this area.

Piloting roles for health data infrastructures within the EHDS framework: analyzing and piloting the roles and potential federation of individual health data infrastructures (genomic, oncology imaging, neuroscience) within the EHDS framework, as well as access to computational resources and other related services and data to support AI-based biotechnology innovations. The analysis should assess the current state of these infrastructures, identify gaps and limitations, and test their integration with EHDS to ensure seamless data exchange and access. The goal is to demonstrate the value of such infrastructures for supporting AI solutions in biotechnology and develop recommendations for their further integration into EHDS.

Developing case studies: creating case studies of successful AI applications in the biotechnology sector and disseminating them among stakeholders to promote best practices, effective approaches and knowledge sharing. These examples should focus on explainable AI.

Integrating AI Factories expertise: utilizing AI Factories technological developments in combination with EHDS infrastructure to conduct simulations and analytics to refine and optimize AI-based biotechnology solutions, ensuring alignment with healthcare system needs.

Monitoring and evaluating progress: developing and testing methodology and tools for tracking and evaluating progress in achieving strategic roadmap goals to ensure analytical insights and timely adjustments for continuous improvement.
